NOTD: First Manicure of 2014 with Cirque Colors Nail Polish

Happy New Year 2014! And what better way than a glitter manicure to welcome a new, fresh start? Here I’m wearing sponged, ombre, glitter manicure using Cirque Colors nail polish that I got at a recent Luxula blowout — Rp55,000 each, woohoo!

Left to right in the below bottle picture they are Ophelia (blue flakes in a clear base), Queen Majesty (purple and multicolor glitter), and Planet Caravan (a maroon and purple glitter in a dark chocolate base). They’re all gorgeous, especially Queen Majesty, definitely swoon-worthy. However, Planet Caravan was very viscous and hard to work with, and on its own too dark for my liking.

I tried the sponge press method for the pinky (lining up all three colors, picking them up simultaneously with the sponge and rolled on the nail), but it just wasn’t working out, what with the different textures and formulas of these three. So for the rest of the nails, it was done the ‘traditional way’, i.e sponging each color in layer, which is actually more to my liking, and faster!

In this manicure, I first swiped Planet Caravan over all nails in a thin coat. Queen Majesty was then sponged over 3/4 of the nail, and Ophelia sponged mostly at the tips with some dusting down 1/2 of the nail. I’m loving the effect. Something dusted over the blue may add some depth — oh well, next time.

Nail of the Week: more vacation glitter!

As I said before, the holidays are for glitter manicures. This time it’s Zoya ‘Sienna’ and Cirque Colors ‘Helios’. Cirque Colors is a brand I’ve wanted to try in a while, and Luxola’s recent 30% off sale was an enabling force (ha!). One of the Cirques I got was ‘Helios’, and gosh, this is the best gold nail polish I’ve ever seen. Honestly! It is a beautiful glitter of gold that is not too yellow or too mustard, just perfect. There are multicolor glitters in it, but not so much that they overwhelm the gold. When I put on nail polish at night, sometimes I use a headlamp. One swipe of Helios on the nails and BAM! That jaw-gaping moment with brush mid air. The pictures here don’t do justice. I’ve been adding Helios to my past four manicures, it’s that awesome!

Zoya Sienna is a great orange for my skin tone, as you can see. It’s bright but clean, with a golden shimmer that brings out the pink in my skin (and tone down the yellow). Click on pictures to enlarge.
